Terrasse is a glass shoebox with wooden decking over the water, sun lounges overlooking a weir (illuminated at night) and comfy sofa seating – a perfect spot for Sunday brunch or a drink at any time of day. Casa, by contrast, cooks up Italian food in a cosy, country-style timber-framed house.

    Bern's riverside oasis

    The sound of falling water, the sun in your face, a cold drink on the table. This is the place everyone (it really seems so) from Bern wants to go to on a warm, sunny day. It can be hard to get a place, but waiting for one of the sofas to free up is definitely worth it. You'll feel like you were on a short holiday after some time on the terrace overlooking the river Aare. And if that's not enough to give you a holiday feeling, then walk along the river until you get to one of Bern's public swimming spots (just ask for "Marzili" – anyone can guide you there) and do it like the locals: walk up the river in your bathing suit, jump into the cold water (19°C in summer), and float back down.
