Sibyllans Kaffe & Tehandel
Looking venerable with its sombre wooden interior and rows of giant tea tins, this tea and coffee peddler has been filling pots and plungers since WWI. Try the house blend of mixed green teas or go Latin with a Bialetti cafeteria and a block of Columbian-bean chocolate.

Live out your Back to the Future fantasy at this super-secret ode to mid-century cool. Hidden away in a basement at the bottom of a claustrophobic staircase, behind an anonymous door, on an out-of-the-way street, this sprawling retro emporium boasts a diner-style café, a Jimmy Dean barber and enough 1950s fashion, furnishings and nostalgia to bring out the Sandra Dee or Fonze within.

The shop that time thankfully forgot, this lovingly cluttered burrow belongs in a bedtime book. Squeeze your way in for cute knick knacks like moose-shaped cookie cutters, pressed-tin trams and original 1920s bookmarks. Best of all, the affable owner will wrap it all up in Emily the Terrible gift wrap.

A good bet for a complete Swedish makeover. Come here for handmade lambs wool mittens, glassware and pottery, adorable jars of cloudberry jam, Swedish art books, jewellery and garden tools for that archipelago summer cottage you're saving for.

Funk-up your feet with exclusive and limited-edition sneakers from brands like And 1, Tretorn and US vintage brand PF Flyers. Look out for specially commissioned numbers, and match them up with DJ-designed threads from New York's Staple, Baltimore's Milkcrate and LA's Mixwell. DJs play the occasional Saturday set and there's an in-store café to boot.

Bag anything from a dog-eared novel to a Perry Como LP at this Nordic Camden Market. While the market stalls are up only between April and September, the hip on-site resto-bar (658 63 50) serves great grub made from local farmers' produce all year long.

This legendary design store was once the stomping ground of Josef Frank, whose modernist furniture and floral-patterned fabrics are now the stuff of Swedish design legend. Nab some of his cult printed fabrics, or simply go for the top-notch lighting, homewares and furniture from Swedish design heavyweights.

If you're after books on Sweden and Swedish culture, it's hard to beat this place. Part of the Swedish Institute, you'll find everything from luscious Bruno Mathsson design books to gripping crime fiction by Henning Mankell. Books come in all major languages.

Tea Centre Of Stockholm
This dark, heavenly-scented tea shop is the place to buy Söderblandning, a hit in Japan and Söder's very own blend of tea. If sweet and fruity isn't your thing, there are another 200-odd blends to choose from, as well as jars of velvety lemon curd, marmalade and buttery Scottish shortbread for a perfect afternoon tea.

If you don't know Tjallamalla in Stockholm, you're fashion-illiterate. This is the place for hot men's and women's rookie labels like Very Truly Yours, Whipping Floyd and JA! Graduates from the city's prestigious Beckmans College of Design School sometimes sell their collections here on commission.

WESC
This street-smart label got started by dressing up underground artists and musos. In less than a decade, it's become one of Sweden's fashion big guns, opening up stores from Seoul to Beverly Hills (actor Jason Lee is a fan). The look is indie-meets-skater cool, with all bases covered, from lusty denim to pimp-a-licious silk hoods for trendy dudes and sistas.

Fashion-literate Swedes can't get enough of designer Roland Hjort's understated clothes - think preppy-college meets street-smart. The guys' sweaters are particularly fine and the women's shoes are irresistible.
