Designtorget
DesignTorget collects the work of design-scene up-and-comers and sells it alongside the work of established denizens. From resin rings to cutting-edge candlesticks, you won’t leave empty-handed. There are other outlets at Kulturhuset, Nybrogatan16, and inside Västermalmsgallerian, Kungsholmen. Götgatan 31 is also home to Press Stop, Stockholm’s best news stand for design and fashion magazines.

Modernity
A bit like a museum where you can take home the booty, world-famous Modernity stocks cult furniture from 20th-century Scandinavian greats like Alvar Aalto, Josef Frank, Arne Jacobsen and Bruno Mathsson, as well as iconic glassware, lighting and jewellery. Best of all, Scottish owner Andrew Duncanson doesn’t mind a natter about his stock – sale or not.

Nordiska Galleriet
This sprawling showroom is a design freak’s El Dorado – think Hannes Wettstein chairs, Hella Jongerius sofas, Alvar Aalto vases and mini-sized Verner Panton chairs for style-sensitive kids. Luggage-friendly options include designer coat-hangers, erudite architecture books and bright Marimekko paper napkins for uberstylish wiping.

Defyra
This quirky design quartet has exhibited everywhere, from Manhattan and Tokyo to hotel lobbies at home. The gallery-shop features a giant hanging plastic bib and a playful collection of silkscreen-printed children’s sweaters, T-shirts, hand-printed postcards and wallpapers, sublime ceramic teacups and stools made from severed skis.

Konsthantverkana
Rumour has it that the Swedish royals shop here and, quite frankly, we don’t blame them. Run by a union of 166 Swedish designers and artists, this revamped gallery-cum-shop is the stuff Wallpaper magazine dreams are made of – think sublime silver rings, loft-worthy ceramics, too-cool crockery and seductive textiles.

Blås & Knåda
Glass and ceramics are the main attraction at this venerable seasoned gallery. Run by around 45 Swedish potters and glassblowers who take turns manning the floor, it’s a good place for ‘Where-did-you-get-that?’ sculptures, vases and dishes, as well as art books and cards to top off the perfect gift.

10 Swedish Designers
Tiogruppen was started in 1970 by a group of then-maverick textile artists, and its bold geometric patterns have become icons of modern Swedish design. Forget white-on-white Scandi minimalism; from the tote bags and cushions to the plates and napkins, the look is shamelessly bright and refreshingly bombastic.

Svenskt Tenn
This legendary design store was once the stomping ground of Josef Frank, whose modernist furniture and floral-patterned fabrics are now the stuff of Swedish design legend. Nab some of his cult printed fabrics, or simply go for the top-notch lighting, homewares and furniture from Swedish design heavyweights.

Room
This huge interior-design store is a hit with cashed-up urbanites who seem to spend entire weekends here matching up fabrics and weighing up the pros and cons of Nigella Lawson salad servers for the kitchen. Get in the vibe or simply opt for a Manolo Blahnik shoehorn and kick back in the buzzing cafe.
