Tennstopet
Had there been a Swedish version of Cheers, it would’ve been filmed here. Oil paintings, gilded mirrors and winter candlelight set the scene for a loveable cast of wizened regulars, corner-seat scribes and melancholy dames. Watch the show with a soothing öl (beer) and a serve of soulful husmanskost.

Wirströms Pub
The charm of this expat-friendly pub is mostly to be found in its labyrinthine cellar, a warren of nooks and crannies that seems to go on forever. Grab a pint of Guinness and hide in a dark corner on a winter’s day, or sit upstairs and socialise with chatty locals over the footie matches on the bigscreen TV.

Bishops Arms
Whether or not you’re convinced by the ‘authentic English pub’ schtick, the bar’s outdoor drinking area, with super castle views, is a swinging spot on a summer evening. There are also pub meals available for under Skr100.

Harrys
Though it’s part of a sort of blah chain, Harrys is in a good location down by the river. It’s popular and has a comprehensive menu of pub meals (Skr80 to Skr180), live music on a Thursday, and a nightclub on Friday and Saturday.

Dubliner
This is as authentic an Irish pub as you'll find on the Continent. It has live music nightly in summer. Pints of Guinness and Kilkenny flow, and bar meals include Emerald Isle staples such as fish and chips or beef-and-Guinness pie.

Nyhavn
There are numerous bars around Möllevångstorget, which probably appeal to a more studenty crowd, such as Nyhavn, a pub with reasonably priced meals to go along with the beer.

Rose & Crown
This is an 'English-style' pub popular with tourists and locals. There's more of a concentration on the restaurant and less on in-your-face drinking than at some other bars.

Soldaten Svejk
In this crowded, wooden-floored, amber-windowed pub, decorated with heraldic shields, punters pine for Prague with great Czech beer on tap, including the massively popular Staropramen. Line your stomach with simple, solid Czech meals (Skr97 to Skr125); the smoked cheese is sublime. Head in early or prepare to queue for a table.
