There was some talk on this forum about being able to get a Moz visa on the spot at the embassy in Mbabane, which takes some of the guesswork out of the border crossing. That information is no longer correct.
After taking a taxi-minibus from Joburg at 7pm, arriving at the border around 11pm (there are a few options for scungy rooms for R300 just on the Swazi side of the border), I rocked up in a taxi to the Mozambique embassy (R40 from the bus station) opposite the Mountain View Hotel.
Hi friends :-)
Does anybody know when are the public days of this year's reed dance celebrations? It's kind of hard to find reliable information online...is it Sunday/Monday (28./29.08.) like every year despite the SADC summit??
I'd be happy about any piece of advice!!
I will be driving from Jo'burg down to Lobamba at the end of August, probably reaching the border early afternoon on Saturday (2-3pm). I have heard that the Oshoek/Ngwenya border can be quite busy, so was wondering about using the Sandlane/Nerston crossing instead. Does anyone have any experience of the two?
Also, we will be in Lobamba on the Sunday but only until about 2pm as we need to be in Mkhaya for 4pm. Will we be able to see any of the reed dance? I have heard that most of the dancing in…
I am heading back to South Africa soon to travel there for a bit and to visit Swaziland. Swaziland visit is not for the brief stopover that most do, but for some days - a week or more. Does anyone know of places with tribal culture? Villages that still retain old ways? Also, is there public transport to and from ? As always, thanks in advance.
I will be flying into Mswati airport in a few days and will need transport to Ndlovu Camp at Hlane National Park. Is that easy enough to arrange on arrival at the airport. I know very few flights land at the airport and I wasn't sure if taxis are always available. I imagine that any shuttles or minibuses might be heading in the opposite direction towards Mbabane/Manzini.
Is there a way to arrange a transfer in advance? I contacted the park but they weren't much help. Thanks.
We are travelling from St Lucia, (SA) towards Kruger and thought we would spend a couple of days in Swaziland, whats the best borders, in and out and where should we go? we are doing a couple of safaris in SA so we dont need to do that in Swaziland, we would like to see their traditional villages, way of life etc. Thank you
There are other nice places to visit in Swaziland in addition to what I wrote about Ezulwini Valley below.
Swaziland in the rainy season is wonderfully green. I chose to visit Ezulwini Valley - I stayed in Lobamba - both for culture and natural beauty. Lobamba isn't the capital of SZ, it's Mbabane. However, some important institutions, like the country's parliament and national museum, for some reason are based here.
The drive from Durban via Golela border crossing and Manzini to Lobamba is…
Please check out our latest blog post regarding driving through Swaziland. It's a beautiful country with many things to see and do.
I just posted about my Mozambique side of the trip. From Mozambique I’m flying to Johannesburg, then have to get down to Durban.
Day 1: Fly into Johannesburg, landing at 1530. Pick up hire car. I’ve found a deal with Europcar for GBP 140 for 8 days + a GBP 40 fee to take the car into Swaziland, and dropping it at Durban Airport. Does this seem like a good deal?
I have 8 nights to get from Jo’burg to Durban, with Swaziland being my main goal. So from JNB drive out and spend the night…
Are there weekday (say Wed or Thu) bus or minibus from Mbabane (or Manzini) to Durban? Googling around, I've only found Siye Swtini's TransMagnific and it looks like they only run on weekends?? I am thinking (hoping) there are smaller, local buses that don't advertise on the web...
