Hey all,

I will be backpacking around the entire country and was wondering if anyone had a great driver/car for hire for about two weeks over Christmas they can recommend?

Thanks,

Rob

My boyfriend and I are travelling to Sri Lanka in January. We are planning the first half of our trip. Can someone please help me - does this look sensible so far?

Day 1 Galle
Day 2 Galle to Ella by train (is this possible? or should we go from Colombo?)
Day 3/4 Climb Adams Peak and relax in Ella
Day 5 Go to Nuwara Eliya
Day 6 Safari Udalwalawe National Park
Day 7 Udalwalawe National Park
After that go to the beaches in the South

I'm confused as to where to stay out of Ella, Hatton and Nuwara…

Can anybody tell me the best way to get from Colombo airport to Anuradhapura?

We will be arriving in Sri Lanka early in the morning (4.30am) and we are wondering what is the best way to go (train or bus) up to Anuradhapura at that time of day?

We had to change our holiday plans at the last minute and we were delighted to find Destination Sri Lanka.

We used Destination Sri Lanka for 11 days to visit key landmarks across the country and they were fantastic! We booked online before leaving home. Their communication was very responsive, helpful and very flexible on their offer to meet our expectations. Also we found their offer very competitive. They confirmed our tours the day before also. Their guides and drivers were very friendly and…

Hi guys, I am trying to finalise our 4 week itinerary for December/January & (like everyone else) I need to choose between a couple of options as I am running out of days. We are a family of 4 (myself, husband & 2 young adult children). We will be using a private car & driver.
Could you please advise if I have things in a logical order & also which option below (1 or 2) is better to travel with in January?

Please use extreme caution on purchasing "rubies" in Sri Lanka. I went to two different nice stores one next to a beautiful Eco Lodge and another around the island. Guarantees were given to me from the store and the Government, came home and needed an alteration in the earrings, 3 carat rubies, guess what.....fake all the way through, also the ring. My friend also purchased and fake on hers as well. Please unless you know what you are buying do NOT trust any jeweler in Sri Lanka. Shopping…

We're going to be staying in Ella. We want to do the Yala safari one day. Will we be able to find a driver to take us from Ella to Yala, do the safari, and then find a driver from Ella to Galle?

Will the timing be ok or is this too much to fit in one day?

Any guesses on cost would be appreciated. Thanks!

Read that the Hindu Pongal activities are held from january 13th till 16th, with Tamil Thai Pongal as main date on january 14th. Is is possible to see/visit these activities? If yes, would in/around Jaffna be the best area to watch (I was thinking about going there anyway) or are other places better? Other recommendations about this event?

Thanks answering in advance,

Harry

4 days spare

Hi folks,

After my 8 days travelling in November I have some days spare. I'm considering just chilling and booking a nice hotel. I finish up my travels in Colombo so somewhere east/ south coast. However possibly in an area I can do day trip etc. I will have been to Galle during my 8 days travels but would be open to that area again.
I'm considering areas of Unawatuna, Bentota and Arugam Bay?

Thanks
