I travelled solo to Sri Lanka in March 2016 and did not have a driver for the first few days. Was staying in Nuwara Eliya and tried looking for a local driver for going to Horton Plains and then drop me off at Nanu-Oya train station. It was not easy as most drivers seem to be based in Colombo and will only do the multiple-days round Sri Lanka tours. I did not really want to take tuk tuk for journeys longer than 30 mins and fortunately I was able to find a driver, thought I will leave his contact…
My experiences at NILAVELI BEACH RESORT.

I booked this hotel on line as it had very positive reviews.
This holiday was in the planning for over 2 years as I wanted my children to visit the best places in Sri lanka.
My family (my daughter, my son and his girlfriend and I) stayed at Nilaveli Beach resort for 1 night from April 22nd to 23rd 2016.
There were several things wrong with this hotel but I will begin with the worst incidence…
We are planning a weeks trip to Srilanka at May end. Keeping my kid(4yr old) in mind can anyone please suggest an overnight stay in a national park or anything else which will be fun.We plan to visit Colombo-Bentota-Kandy.
PS: places close to bentota or kandy
I'm looking for a critique of my current plans for Sri Lanka. Should be heading there mid-August, I'm an experienced solo male traveller who loves nature, hiking/scrambling and enjoying whatever cultural sights are around me. I don't tend to appreciate big cities. My budget is very much a backpacker budget, so I'll be looking for cheap places to stay along the way.
At the moment my plans are fully flexible, so I can easily drop/add places.
(1) Are the times given for each place…
Hi guys and gals
I am going to Sri Lanka for a friends wedding 24th May. Wondering as a lone traveller what are the best things to do? I have had a look on Viator and seen some day trips.
Wondering if anybody is about 26th may-2nd June? And what I shouldn't miss.
I will be staying in Colombo and its pretty short notice so not researched much.
I visited central Sri Lanka about 14 years ago and am trying to identify where I took some photographs.
Somewhere near Dambulla there is a temple with paintings of "demons" murdering people and a painted plaster type statue of someone having a baton stuck into their forehead.
I'm not into this for the gore, I am just trying to trace my route.
So, I've only just begun to think about a trip to Sri Lanka, either in the fall or in the new year, so bear with me! I may have some misconceptions about what I can and can't do.
Sri Lanka really fits the bill in a lot of ways for what I'm looking for. I'll have about 5 weeks to travel, and will either be going in November/December or January/February, and I have two questions.
Is this enough time in Sri Lanka to somewhat idly travel about? I would like to split my time between…
hi. We're a family of 5 adults & 3 kids ( 3,8,10 yrs). Will reach Colombo in the afternoon around 1330hrs. And will depart Colombo at 0630hrs. Plan to stay at Bentota ( beach ) , Nuwara Eliya ( uphill ) and Colombo on the way back. Need help in hiring a car along with a driver. Pls help.
I am backpacking in Sri Lanka for about 8-9 days June 4th onward. As I can understand that many parts will be raining at this time of the year, I would like to have your suggestions on what places should I visit during June. Will be there be enough tourists around? I want to hit the beaches and want to know more about the beach parties.
Hello everyone! I will be traveling to Colombo on May 19th to May 29th. Because of the long flights, I will be arriving in Colombo on May 21st at around 430AM. I will be traveling with my wife. We are both in our late 20's. I wanted to get some help devising an itinerary. After almost 20 hours in flight, I believe the best bet would be to stay our first day in Colombo/Negombo. Any hotel suggestions? That would leave is with the remaining 7 days to plan to see as much as we can in Sri Lanka. What…
