Yala safari trip

Hello

Does anyone have any experience with Yala safari trip?
Received mixed feedbacks on this so haven't able to setup the plan, altho I am keen to go.

In Ella now, may go to Yala tomorrow for the safari.

Solo traveller, wish to join a half day group safari trip so cost can become reasonable.
Any input is appreciated.

Hello
Off to Sri Lanka in Feb. I have travelled before to south America , India, malysia among others. This will be my first time taking my son on a long distance adventure . He wants to see elephants and whales so Sri Lanka seemed a good choice. We plan a night in Colombo after landing express train to kandy then pinnawala visit then train back down to mirissa via Colombo then work our way back up the coast visiting poetics turtle sanctuary too.
Just wondering if anyone has travelled solo or…

Sri Lanka wildlife....with a baby / toddler

Hi wise folk of the Thorn Tree

I'm travelling to Sri Lanka with my husband and 14 month old daughter for 3 weeks in Nov / Dec this year.

I LOVE wildlife, nature, the outdoors and am very keen to visit a selection of amazing eco-tourism / wildlife / national parks. We used to be pretty serious travellers, very happy to get off the beaten track to reach remote destinations and pursue opportunities to observe animals in the wild, but of course now this needs to be moderated by the safety and…

15 days Sri Lanka in November, birds and beach

Hi there!
I'm going to Sri Lanka in a couple of weeks, for 15 days. I did some research but I still find it challenging to choose, so some help would be great. My main interests for this trip are wildlife (especialy birds) and few days of nice quiet beach. Now, I'd like to avoid as much as possible jeep tours, but I surely wanna see leopards. On my list of must go so far there's Yala, Horton Plains and Bundala park, list that I'd like to expand, very interested as I said about places you can…

ideas of what to do...

hey I've just posted some pics on my blog about some of the stuff i got up to in my 6 week trip around Sri Lanka if anyone needs some inspiration on what to do whilst you're there: www.waterbasedproductions.com

I'd highly recommend getting the LP guidebook for when you're there. The map alone was SO helpful when trying to figure out buses and directions and I got public buses the whole way down the west over to the east coast thanks to it.

New Travel Restrictions in Sri Lanka

Sorry if this has already been posted here - I didn't see a thread.

Anyone visiting SL who does not have a Sri Lankan passport and wishing to travel to the north (Jaffna and the northern province) will have to get a special permit from the Ministry of Defence here, who will consider whether the applicant is visiting for bona fide reasons and issue or refuse a pass accordingly. Any 'foreigner' or SL expat trying to come to the north, whether by road, rail or air, who is not in possession of…

Train Galle to Colombo Fort

Hi I'm travelling from galle to Colombo fort tomorrow and have read conflicting information (seat61/forums and LK railways website)
I'd like to travel after "rush hour " but during day light and understand there to be no 1st class only 2nd and 3rd.
If possible I'd like an express train, does anyone know the times , cost and length of journey?
Think its a matter of getting there early to ensure a seat, although with hefty luggage I'd prob wish to keep an eye on it and worse case perch on it!!
