Getting from Colombo Airport to Hikkaduwa on the 24th

Hi everyone,
My flight arrives in Colombo at 5.10am on the 24th. I'm going to Hikkaduwa (traveling solo) and am considering taking the train from Colombo Fort. There is a train at 8.35am but do I have any realistic chance of making it to that train? I understand there is a shuttle bus from the airport to Colombo Fort that takes at least an hour.
Does the train really only take about two hours or is this wishful thinking? I would love to take the train but if the reality is that it will take all…

Recommendations for a surf trip in late January

My wife and I are heading to Sri Lanka for 14 days in late January and are looking for towns / places to visit. We are in our early 30's and would like some mid range accommodations, good waves for intermediate surfers and a good vibe. We are thinking of staying a few days on one location and then heading to another. We may also head up to the tea plantations toward the end of our trip. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Negombo to Adam's peak?

Hi,
Does anyone can inform me if there's any transport we can take from Negombo direct to Adam's peak? (no Adam's peak itself, but the closest town). Or we'll have to go through Colombo?
And any basic and cheap accommodation to recommand us in Negombo? We'll arrive quite late in the evening by plane.
Thanks again!

Backpacker in Sri Lanka, what king of budget to expect?

Hi folks!
We are backpackers travelling around SEA since last march, now going in the Indian Subcontinent starting with Sri Lanka. We got the LP, but definetly not the last one I think (but it was the only one available in BKK). When we look at the accomodation, just to have an idea about the price, they give mostly the midrange and luxury resort, very few budget and those ones are usualy around 20$ and more....I just would like to double check with backpackers who went recently if the normal…

Tour to Uda Walawe National Park from Ella/Mirissa? If not, Embilipitiya best option?

Hi all,

I will travel through Sri Lanka in January for two weeks. My route will be as follows: Colombo - Ella - Mirissa - Unawatuna - Colombo. I would like to visit Uda Walawe National Park too, and wonder if it's possible to do so from Ella or Mirissa - taking a tour from there. If not, what is a nice place to stay the night before and the night after the safari? Lonely Planet suggests Embilipitiya, but it doesn't seem to be a very nice city. Are there other options I do not know of?

Thanks!

Getting around Sri Lanka

Hej guys!

Me and my BF are traveling Sri Lanka for two weeks in February. We are simply wondering if it's easy to travel between cities by train or bus or taxi or whatever, and also what the price range is?

We're taking the route Colombo - Nuwara Eliya - Yala National Park - Mirissa - Colombo. As these are quite touristy places I'm guessing it's at least possible to get from one point to the other?

Also, is it necessary to pre-book a tour in Yala or can we just do that the day before from…

Advice on number of days to explore Sir Lanka and monsoon update

Hi!

I am planning to travel around Sir Lanka either in January or February for about 2 weeks( 13-15 days), would these number of days be enough to travel around and explore the island? How bad is to travel in the north part where it seems being affected by the monsoon during January and February?
Any recommended itinerary?
Thanks again! Happy travels!

Safe enough for a female solo traveller?

Hi dear travellers!
For those female travellers who have been recently in Sri Lanka, I would appreciate your recommendations about travelling alone as a solo woman in the island. Is it safe to move around as a female backpackers in terms of being with a bikini on the beach or taking trains and buses or staying in single rooms in guest houses??

Many thanks indeed!
