I've just booked flights to Sri Lanka for myself and my son who will be three. We will be flying into Colombo at the beginning of October. I plan to spend a couple of nights in Negombo before heading south, I'm thinking to Mirissa.
I'm wondering whether this is the best place? We want somewhere beachy and chilled where we can settle for the full trip, maybe making a couple of trips of around a week to national parks etc.
I'm also wondering whether anybody can recommend the best way of going…
Just found some mega cheap flights from Edinburgh to Colombo, for £313 approx for me and £200 ish for my son who will be three. The flights are with Qatar Airways, via Travel Trolley.
I just googled Travel Trolley, and have seen lots of posts advising against using them - but not many actual stories of woe. Apparently they are part of Southall Travel who are apparently terrible - I used them several times a few years ago whenever I went to india and always bought mega cheap flights from…
Hi! I will be travelling to Sri Lanka in September - a few weeks with a friend and a few weeks alone. Don't want to plan too much but would love some tips/ideas - what not to miss, where best to go, what to avoid... etc !
Also - will be continuing travels from Sri Lanka into Asia. Any ideas of best/cheapest/interesting place to get to?
I'm going to Sri Lanka for a month and have a friend coming to meet me halfway through. Ideally I would have travelled in one big circle, but with her coming, I now have to come back to Colombo to meet her, so I've decided to do a 'North of Colombo' loop and a 'South of Colombo' loop - putting her on the South portion as she wants a mix of beaches, National Parks and hiking. Does this sound reasonable for 2x 2 week routes?
North: Airport - Negombo - Kegalle - Kandy - Dambulla - Matale -…
I am a real whimp, I have not travelled very much but for my 60th I am with my husband and 4 others choosing to go to Sri Lanka I have booked into the Pandanus Hotel. I am now reading that it is not a very good hotel and not near anything to do tours etc. Can anyone reassure me that I have not made an awful mistake!!
I'll be in Sri Lanka from August 18-27, and would love to meet up with some people if you're there during that time. My planned itinerary is:
Aug 18: flight in overnight, then Sigiriya, Dambulla (staying in Polonnaruwa)
Aug 19: Polonnaruwa, Minneriya for The Gathering (staying in Nilaveli)
Aug 20: Trinco/Nilaveli
Aug 21: Trinco/Nilaveli
Aug 22: drive to then explore Kandy (staying in Kandy)
Aug 23: Nuwara Eliya or Ella by train, see a tea plantation? (either staying in N.E. or Ella)
We are arriving at Colombo via cruise ship on Nov 22. We then have 4 nights before a Gadventure Tour that starts in Negombo. Any suggestions as to where to stay in that period that would give us some exposure to local culture, food etc.? We are not looking for a resort style beach experience, but are in 70's, so appreciate some level of comfort. Thank you.
I am currently trying to work out an itinerary for a 5 week trip to Sri Lanka. I know roughly which places I am visiting and we are hoping to take it slowly as we are taking our 2 year old son with us and so for this trip I want to book most of it not all of my accommodation in advance.
We are starting in Negombo and heading out to the hill country and will visit Udawale on our way down to the south coast. I am trying to work out which beaches to visit. So far I am quite certain…
I am a 34-year old woman from Finland, Helsinki, and looking for travel company to Sri Lanka.
Well, in fact my plan now is to live there like 6-12 months and to take a break from working life in Finland. And also it is a luring thought to escape the Finnish winter ;)
In SL I would love to live in Colombo/Galle. Have visited Lanka once and loved it. The nature and the people! Also interested in working there a bit and doing something reasonable for the country. My field is health care…
