Apologies as I realise this is a very similar question to many others but I don't want to 'gatecrash' someone else's questions as mine are slightly different!
I'm trying to finalise travel plans for 12 days in Sri Lanka in January. We hope to visit the following places:
- Adam's Peak (is it best to go from Dalhousie?)
- ?possibly white water rafting (near ish to Adam's Peak area?)
- Kandy (or should we miss out Kandy as route looks more convenient through Hatton (and side tour to…
I am due to go with my husband to Sri Lanka - cultural triangle/ Kandy/Nuwara Eliya/Ella/Galle/Colombo last week in Nov for 2 weeks . Is Dengue fever a real concern ? If I can postpone to a different month should I? If so what month?
I'll be in Sri Lanka next February and want to check out Wilpatti National Park. Anyone have a recommendation
for a tour group? Where is the best place to find others to join in a tour? Is it better to try and stay in one of the
smaller villages near the park, or easier to find options at some of the larger towns on the coast. Thanks in advance for any advice. JB
I got to know Anu through my colleague, where his brother also engaged with Anu's touring service in Sri Lanka few years ago. I decided to go ahead by using Anu's service for our Sri Lanka ground touring service as the trip quotation that Anu provided was reasonable.
Anu was friendly, flexible and kind towards us in the last 3 days trip to Kandy, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, and Dambulla. He shared with us the cultures and customs in Sri Lanka, things which were nice to know and avoid throughout our…
Hi people, I'm visiting Sri Lanka with a friend in January and we were just going over the travel plan. What we have in mind is the following:
Day 1 - We arrive on the 23rd of January at 00:10 am in Colombo, from Bangkok. Planning to spend the night in Negombo, since it's closest to the airport.
Day 2 - leave Negombo for Colombo, take train to Kandy
Day 3 - full day in Kandy
Day 4 - leave to Nuwara Eliya, spend the night in N-Eliya
Day 5 - full day in N-Eliya
Day 6 - leave N-Eliya, visit Horton…
Thanks for your help.
I'm contemplating doing an Indian visa run in Colombo in early January.
Need a room as base when in Colombo which is strategic in terms of bus to CRS VISA place.
Might anyone know of a place for $ 7/8?
I know I can use rickshaws too. Had a bad experience with one and now wary of them. Usually stay near the Fort Railway station. But they've hiked price to 1200/night.
Is Mt Lavinia the way to go.
Any veterans on this Indian visa trail who might know of a good place to stay…
I will be flying into Colombo in a couple of weeks time and arrive about 09:30. My plan is to spend most my time down the south West, Galle etc area.
However first night I have booked in Mt Lavinia for on night then planning the train the next day south.
I am only in Sri Lanka for a couple of weeks, and since arriving early, am I best just to head straight down south by train or bus or spend that full day and night in Colombo (Mt Lavinia).
Since time is limited I am questioning whether…
I'm getting down to the details of planning our trip. We plan to do most travel by train - but it seems like it would make most sense to get a taxi/car with driver to do the trip from Ella to Tangalle. Now I've read a lot about hiring a car with a driver. But just how easy would it be to find a car or taxi on the spot in Ella? Could I rely on a hotel being able to organise something - or is this a thing I need to organise myself in advance? How much could I expect to pay? Thanks!
We booked with Ceylon Touristik and Travel - Mr Buddhika a tour for a 19 days – 18 nights trip around the island. We asked for separate budgets for driver and hotels as we wanted hotels around 90/100USD night. Mr Buddhika made us a program, with a list of hotels and sent us his invoice as below.
DETAILS AMOUNT (USD)
1. COST OF TRANSPORTATION & ALL ACTIVITIES FOR MS. ANA X 02 FROM 29/09/2016 TO 17/10/2016 - USD 775 X 02 - USD 1550
2. COST OF ACCOMMODATION - USD 864 X 02 - USD 1728
I think I will start in Anuradhapura (beginning of December) and hit the major (and maybe some minor) sites for a week and then head south. I am pretty sure I will be traveling by bus/train but may hire a car for a day or two.
What do you recommend as the most efficient order?
After leaving Anuradhapura is it better to stay in a central location in the region or should I stay at each place visited?
What would you recommend as a less visited cultural site?
