Lonely Planet review
The Monty’s contemporary lobby is all smooth concrete and warm woods. Rooms are not as sleek, but the newer ones do have modern furniture and clean lines. (Sadly, non-air-con rooms are only so-so.) The restaurant (mains Rs 250 to 600) serves a range of local and Western dishes on its cool outdoor terrace and in the tasteful dining room: the crumb-fried seer fish with fries – basically fish and chips – is shockingly good. Monty’s is in a residential area a 10-minute stroll south of Commercial Bank.
Our independent authors have visited Monty Guest House and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Ampara.
