Hi,
I'm sure this has been asked before on this forum, but I can't seem to find a specific thread, so I'm just going to ask myself. I have read that the south coast is in its monsoon season when we are visiting (late July through to early August), but I'm just wondering how serious it is? I have read conflicting reviews, some say it just means and afternoon shower, others say it's incredibly windy and too rough to swim in the water. We are travelling with 2 young children, so although they don't…

Hi

Planning to join a meditation session for 10 days in Sri Lanka after which I will be traveling around. It is going to be in August and my options are:
1.Kosgama, Kolamba
2.Anuradhapura
3.Kandy, Madhyama
4.Negampaha

I am considering Kandy but I read a bit on the net and it says West, South, and hills will not have good weather conditions. Is that so? Does it rain all the time making certain areas inaccessible? Where do you think will be the best weather (or least bad) in August in my…

HI,

I am a BSc Wildlife Conservation student at the University of Kent. I am looking to do some relevant volunteering in Sri-Lanka. I was wondering if anybody has any places they could recommend?

I would like to gain some experience on a project working to conserve a threatened species or where there is wildlife-human conflict.

I am thinking possibly wildlife parks, sanctuaries, or conservation projects. Any suggestions of places you have volunteered at, visited or just heard of would be…

Hi, would love to pick your brains on our upcoming trip to SL...

We finish a boat tour at 13.30 in Mirissa on a Wednesday, and would like to be in Hatton (Dickoya) by about 14.00 on the following day, Thursday. Does anyone know how long (and which route) it would like to drive from Mirissa? (We will have a driver). And would an overnight on the Wednesday at somewhere like Udawalawe help break up the journey, or is it still quite a long driving distance from there to Hatton (Dickoya).

Thanks so…

Howdy fellow packers, just back from my annual trip. Sri Lanka gets a solid B+. any bad times were due to bad decisions on my end. I'm a independent low budget voyager; no cell phone, reservations etc....

Highlights were many. Top two things I wanted to do were go on safari and see the great blue whales. Lucky with both of these. Headed by bus up to the crossroads for Walpittu NP, east of Puttalam. Stayed at the one Guesthouse within walking distance of the park, Teal Cottage, for 3,500r…

Hi,
I plan a trip and almost decided for this company: Blooming Lanka Tours. Do you have any opinions about this company. I'm a little bit afraid, because their website is not working.

Thank you for all opinions.

Our family of four will be traveling around Sri Lanka this month, and I'm seeking advice/opinions from people who have been to Horton Plains. First question, what is the most convenient area to stay to do an early morning Horton Plains trek? It sounds to me like Haputale and Nuwara Eliya are a bit of a drive, is there anything closer? I'm reading that one needs to bring warm clothes and something waterproof for the early morning walk, that it will be cold and wet. Is this true? We are planning…

hello travelers, ome good friends of mine (2 parents, & 2 kids aged 7 and 10) are meeting us in Sri Lanka for 8 days. For them it is a vacation not slow long term travel as it is for for us. I am trying to plan for all of us (we are a family of 4 also). I want them to have a nice taste of Sri Lanka (I don't think they've ever been to Asia) but don't want to exhaust them. We already have Kandy booked for 2 nights. Should we just find a car and driver (but we are 8) or do I take them on train and…
