To zoo or not to zoo
Blog: photito's blog - 22 September 2011
I may not be a great fan of zoo’s in general. And I’m certainly not a huge fan of Fuengirola on the Spanish Costa del Sol (too many tourists, too few remains of the original architecture). But hey, when you’ve got kids, you start realising that a few of your convictions may need modifying. After [...]

Three things I like to do in Madrid
Blog: photito's blog - 20 September 2011
I seem to be surrounded by people praising Barcelona these days. Whether they go on and on about the food, the atmosphere, or the wonderfully talented Mr Messi, I have to admit that I am sick and tired about the hype by now. Barcelona is cool, I know. But let’s hear it for Madrid. Because [...]

Barcelona Wishes You Were Here
Blog: Suzy Guese - 3 September 2011
Despite the extra pounds of luggage wearing on me and the engulfing heat, I knew instantly I could only love Barcelona. After checking into my hostel, complete with a shower right in the middle of the room, the quirks of Barcelona began to spread out on to the table. The first sight I had to [...]

More good times with angry bulls
Blog: La Tortuga Viajera - 29 August 2011
Every year, I’m drawn back to good old San Sebastián de los Reyes for another round of watching drunken teenagers narrowly escape angry bulls. Somehow, as I hide my face behind my hands, I can’t resist the urge to peek through my fingers and watch the train wreck of an event that is the second [...]

La Tomatina in Buñol, Spain Wishes You Were Here
Blog: Suzy Guese - 19 August 2011
As I casually walk down an innocent side street in Buñol, Spain, an older man looks at me. His eyes seem to be seeing targets. He is carrying a bucket full of tomatoes. One by one, he hoists them at me. A familiar scene, like dodge ball in junior high, this is not going to [...]

Morocco would like half the tourist income from the Alhambra
Blog: The View from Fez - 11 August 2011
One of Morocco's many great contributions to the world's cultural heritage would have to be Al-Qal‘at al-Ḥamrā’ - "the Red Fortress" - the Alhambra. It is ironic that Spanish Christians spent 800 years trying to kick the Moors out and, having succeeded, are now making so much of the city's income from their legacy. However, if one visionary Moroccan Government Minister has his way, that may be about to change.
