Stuck in London getting to Barcelona - Happy Xmas
Blog: Barcelona Travel and Living - 23 December 2009
Well, it has been an unpredictable year and mine has ended exactly that way also with all of the snow falling in the UK (despite global warming) and closing dozens of airports and meaning hundreds of cancelled flights, in the UK and around Europe. So the long and short of the situation is that I missed my flight back to Barcelona and will not be in Barcelona for Christmas Day. Having a lot of family in England though, the thought of being forced to stay here and take advantage of:

La Boqueria Market – A Feast for the Senses
Blog: Brilliant Tips Travel Blog - 19 December 2009
Barcelona’s most famous food market, La Boqueria is a covered market with hundreds of stalls devoted to nothing but food. La Boqueria is a place where visitors can easily spend an hour or two wandering around the market’s crowded, winding aisles filling up their memory card with photos. As you enter the market from La Rambla, the first few stalls appear to be set up to “wow” visitors with unblemished fruit arranged in spectacular pyramids and colorful arrangements of candy and sweets. The market is divided into different sections that ...

Toilets and Traveling
Blog: Green Earth Guides ~ Traveling Naturally - 14 December 2009
I consider myself relatively easy going about toilets and bathroom facilities. That is I have gone backwoods camping and once lived with nothing more than an outhouse for almost four years. So it is not that I require luxury. However, when traveling I am amazed at the state of some toilettes.

A great new used book store has opened in Valencia a block behind the Plaza de la Reina. KandA Books is named for its friendly owners Kelly and Andy, world travelers who wanted to live in a climate warmer than their native Scotland, and run a business that was helpful not hurtful to the environment.

More Travel Tales by Emily Callagan
Blog: GoBackpacking - 10 December 2009
You remember Emily Callagan, right? She wrote the most popular article on Go Backpacking last month, entitled “The Importance of Hooking Up Abroad.” Since so many people enjoyed her writing, we thought it was time to share a little more of it. The following excerpts are from her stories on Drexel’s blog, The Smart Set. Birthday Wish I [...]Buy travel insurance from Worldnomads.com (Lonely Planet's preferred carrier)

Montserrat, Barcelona. The Monastery That’s Your Last Resort
Blog: The Travel Tart - Offbeat Tales From A Travel Addict - 1 December 2009
Montserrat, Barcelona is a mountain located on the outskirts of this great Spanish city that possesses a Benedictine Monastery. Montserrat was also the rock source for some sections of the famous La Sagrada Familia church that’s been under construction for decades and doesn’t look like finishing soon. The structural engineers who designed and built the Benedictine Monastery [...]Montserrat, Barcelona.

Chocolate con churros: Harder to order than one might think
Blog: Abroad in Spain: Travel Blog - 29 November 2009
The winter has finally arrived to Burgos. The days are darker, the temperatures are lower, and the people of the city are sporting their “Eskimo attire” to combat the cold. Of course, if you don’t like bundling up to stay warm, you could try another “heat-seeking” technique: eating freshly made churros. Since the weather has begun [...]

I’ve spent most of today doing work behind the scenes on this site. I’m looking at migrating to Worpress.org which is a lot more powerful version of WordPress.com which is where what you’re reading currently resides. This means I’d have to pay for hosting though but if I can find something meeting my requirement at [...]

Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 23 November 2009
I’ve completed a blog entry for every single day of this trip (over 100 now, crikey) before arriving here at Chez Haslam in St Jean d’Angely and my mild OCD/OPCD won’t let break that pattern when I’ve only a few more to go. The problem is I’m not really traveling per se, I’m just dropping [...]

The Cathedral of Burgos: A treat on the inside
Blog: Abroad in Spain: Travel Blog - 21 November 2009
Not too long ago I wrote a post about the exterior of the Cathedral of Burgos, a thirteenth century Catholic Cathedral. As far as cathedrals in Spain go, this one is a bit on the famous side — and it’s no wonder why. The building itself is beautiful. Just the other day I paid another trip to [...]

Morocco's close ties with Spain
Blog: The View from Fez - 21 November 2009
While Moroccan Arabic (Darija) is the common language of Moroccans, many speak at least one other language, usually French, Modern Standard Arabic, and perhaps a Berber language. Judging by the success of language schools across the country, many people recognise the importance of learning or improving on their language skills, and Moroccans are very good at learning languages. There are nine American Language Centers in Morocco teaching English, and six Cervantes Centres for Spanish, as well as French Institutes in all major cities.

Last night I ate at Foster’s Hollywood as it was the only place that appeared to still be open at midnight. It was a bit more expensive than I normally budget for an evening meal but my ‘Director’s Cut’ bacon cheese burger was a nice treat. My good pal Steven dropped me a text while [...]

Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 19 November 2009
The guy who likes to leave his phone on the street has got another habit (also phone related) which is annoying. He will still be pressing snooze for the alarm he has set an hour and a half after it first went off. Why not just set it to go off later instead of waking [...]

I just watched this. What I find more amazing is how bobbins the ref must have been. I’m off to the launderette now, clad in a bit of a strange outfit that I don’t really have much choice about. Converse trainers, no socks, short jeans, t-shirt and erm, no gruds. In November too. Though the weather [...]

I’m now on route to Bilbao. After finally making it up for brekkie (it didn’t happen, Sat, Sun or Mon) I went on the net for a bit and then said tarah to Topshop in time to make the 14:00 bus. €27 and a touch less than 5 hours. The last few days events have caught [...]
