    Vinçon

An icon of the Barcelona design scene, Vinçon has the slickest furniture and household goods (particularly lighting), both local and imported. Not surprising, really, since the building, raised in 1899, belonged to the Modernista artist Ramon Casas. Head upstairs to the furniture area – from the windows and terrace you get close side views of La Pedrera.

    Cereria Subirà

Even if you’re not interested in myriad mounds of colourful wax, pop in just so you’ve been to the oldest shop in Barcelona. Cereria Subirà has been churning out candles since 1761 and at this address since the 19th century; the interior has a voluptuous, baroque quality.

Retro design lovers will fall hard for this captivating store with its midcentury chrome lamps, sleek Danish modern furnishings and geometric home decorative items. Objects date from the 1930s to the 1970s, and if those elk horns don't fit in your suitcase, you can always opt for one of Gotham's iconic T-shirts.

    Cubiña

Even if interior design doesn’t ring your bell, it's worth a visit to this extensive temple to furniture, lamps and just about any home accessory your heart might desire just to see this Domènech i Montaner building. Admire the enormous and whimsical wrought-iron decoration at street level before heading inside to marvel at the ceiling, timber work, brick columns and windows. Oh, and don’t forget the furniture.
