  1. A

    Tabernilla Modernilla

On a quiet street just back from the Paseo del Prado is this colourful but cosy split-level little bar with an artsy vibe where mojitos, daiquiris and piña coladas cost a reasonable €6. From time to time it also has small shows or exhibitions and it’s always worth stopping by to see what’s happening.

  2. B

    B Aires Café

This oasis of sophistication in anything-goes Chueca is perfect for a quiet conversation, and most gays and lesbians passing through Chueca spend some time here, either resting from nights of partying, taking some down time in preparation for the night ahead or simply as an end in itself.

  3. C

    Cafeina

Just before Malasaña disappears into the seedy hinterland of Gran Vía, Cafeina is a lovely down-tempo bar with soft lighting, cool music and a mellow crowd. On weekends, DJs spice things up a bit upstairs.
