Sunshine in Sitges

Sitges comes alive in Summer as the Italians, Germans, French, British and local Barcelonians descend on the sea-side village to soak up the sunshine, feast on fresh food and to varying degrees leave their inhibitions behind. A popular gay tourist destination only 30minutes from Barcelona city or main airport by rail makes this a very easy destination to get to. And, when you get there walking everywhere from beach to bar to restaurant or hotel is easy albeit sometimes a little hilly.

Head to the beach to see the boys in this season’s latest lycra creations as they chat, relax, tense muscles and generally flirt outrageously with each other. The girls are welcome too as this is just the most relaxed and easy town to visit. Young families and a gay couple lay either side the retired local family as no one seems to mind the other as long as everyone is smiling and enjoying themselves.

As the sun descends the sun worshippers return to their hotel only too briefly to prepare for the night ahead. And, Sitges isn’t a village to sleep at night. It comes alive with what seems like hundreds of bars, clubs and restaurants. The streets are teeming with people (and their small dogs) and become a cacophony of sound with everyone enjoying the Summer nights in the back streets running from the sea and around Sant Bartolomeu (the town’s main church and landmark).
