Lonely Planet review
Passions run high in Barcelona over the fate of its star league football side, Football Club Barcelona. The team plays at the Camp Nou stadium, and tickets for the big matches can be quite hard to come by. Touts always work the stadium, but you need to be careful, as security is tight. The same club boasts a champion basketball team. FC Barcelona shoots baskets at the Palau Blaugrana (B5), just by the main stadium.
Camp Nou, built in 1957 and enlarged for the 1982 World Cup, is one of the world's biggest stadiums, holding 100,000 people. The club has a world-record membership of 112,000 (and growing). Soccer fans who can't get to a game should find the museum worthwhile. The best bits are the photo section, the goal videos and the views out over the stadium. Among the quirkier paraphernalia are old sports board games, a 19th-century leather football, the life-sized diorama of old-time dressing rooms, posters and magazines from way back, and the futbolĂn (table soccer) collection.
