Lonely Planet review

The turreted and vaguely Mudéjar-inspired 1888 Casa Vicenç was one of Gaudí's first commissions. This private house (which cannot be visited) is awash with ceramic colour and shape.

As was frequently the case, Gaudí sought inspiration in the past, in this case the rich heritage of building in brick so typical of the Mudéjar (architecture created by Spanish Arabs allowed to remain in Spain after the Christian conquests) style found in much of Spain reconquered from the Muslims.
