Lonely Planet review

An intriguing mix of medieval art and ceramics and modern paintings make up this eclectic private collection. Jaume Huguet is represented by Santa Maria Magdalena, a bright, Gothic representation of Mary Magdalene dressed in red ermine. Medieval works also include wooden sculptures of the Virgin Mary and Christ taken down from the Cross.

Francisco Godia (1921-90), head of one of the great establishment families of Barcelona, liked fast cars (he came sixth in the 1956 Grand Prix season driving Maseratis) and fine art. Godia's interests range from the Neapolitan baroque painter Luca Giordano through to Catalan modernisme and Valencia's Joaquim Sorolla. Antoni Tàpies leads the way into the museum's modern pieces. Also on display is a ceramics collection, and temporary exhibitions are frequently shown.
