As thrilling or depressing as any other, this small zoo occupies the southern end of the Parc de la Ciutadella and boasts 4000 creatures great and small. Plans are afoot to move the zoo to a new spot in Parc del Fòrum.

The death in late 2003 of the zoo's star attraction, the albino gorilla Floquet de Neu (Snowflake), does not seem to have unduly dented the number of visits by locals to this modest zoo. Distress at Floquet's passing was such that the city council is even talking about naming a street after the deceased gorilla. Floquet was brought to Barcelona in the 1960s after being orphaned by poachers, and his passing made news around the world.
