Lonely Planet review
This oddball private collection features more than 700 exhibits, including ceramics, mummies, friezes, jewellery, masks and statuettes from ancient Egypt.
In the basement is an exhibition area and library, in which volumes including original editions of works by Carter, the Egyptologist who led the Tutankhamen excavations, are one display. In 2004, forensic scientists carried out an autopsy on one of the mummies, the Dama de Kenet, a woman who died aged about 20 during the Roman administration of Egypt. Lovers of cheese may go in for the night-time visit, in which you are regaled with a show commentated by an Egyptologist.
