Lonely Planet review for Bar Central

Hiding out towards the back of Barcelona’s best-known market is this fabulously chaotic lunchtime bar. Marketeers, local workers and the occasional curious tourist jostle for a stool – get there early or be prepared to wait. Order a few generous raciones, and make one of them the grilled fish of the day.

    Unprofessional, discriminatory and disrespectful!

    __traveller__ does not recommend this,

After waiting for more than 40 minutes when I finally got a seat, the woman behind the counter told me to leave that seat because other people would sit there. When questioned, she yelled “This is my place so I can do whatever I want”. Other clients tried to intervene in my favor, questioning that they do not operate on “First come, first serve basis”, but all that followed was pure display of rudeness, ignorance and swearing. I’ve truly never been so mistreated as client anywhere in the world! I can't understand how it can possibly be rated #21 of 848 things to do in Barcelona. Something must be really wrong here....

    Freshest food on earth!

    shanezzz recommends this,

This place was my salvation on a recent trip to Barcelona. The market itself is just as busy as the Rambla outside. However, it is so easy to relax and forget about it all, despite the hustle and bustle all around you. High stools along the counter provide you with a great view of the fantastic food preparation occuring in the smallest of spaces I have seen. A coffee machine, a grill, frying area and a fridge - that's it! The food itself, being both humble and the would be envy of any restaurant I've eaten in, comes from every corner of this amazing market. Even arriving at 8 in the morning, when you think it's safe, the counter is still 3 people deep. If anything, just go and see the chefs in action. You'll see nothing like it.
