Lonely Planet review for Cafè de l’Òpera
Opposite the Gran Teatre del Liceu is La Rambla’s most intriguing cafe. Operating since 1929, it is pleasant enough for an early evening libation or coffee and croissants. Head upstairs for an elevated seat above the busy boulevard. Can you be tempted by the cafè de l’Òpera (coffee with chocolate mousse) ?

This place is nothing more than a tourist trap.

Guide books recommend this place for the churros con chocolate which are actually quite mediocre. Go for the history and the décor, but eat somewhere else.

Chill, charm, churros.

When your feet are in need of a well-earned beak after walking the length of Las Ramblas, Cafe de l'Opera offers a calm yet buzzy oasis in which to refuel. The helpful staff and cosmopolitan atmosphere make this cafe a must-visit. It's worth taking your time here, as the real joy of this place comes from taking in your glossy surroundings, while watching the world outside whizz by. Don't let the high calibre people-watching distract you from the food on offer though. Getting back on your feet before tasting the famed churros on offer would be a tragic waste.
