Blog: Travel Adventures of Newman - 16 July 2011
"Choices, choices...", I sighed, as I surveyed the numerous plates laid neatly side-by-side on the bar at Tamboril, a restaurant just off the main square in old town San Sebastian.

Pintxos heaven in San Sebastian
Blog: theboywhoatetheworld - 8 May 2011
How do you not fall head-over-heels in love with San Sebastian? With one of Europe’s best city beaches on its doorstep… rolling jade-green hills in the backdrop… more Michelin star restaurants per square foot than anywhere else in the world… and the quaintness of the Parte Vieja’s (Old Town) narrow streets which seem to blend [...]

Poker face
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 20 November 2009
Last night I ate at Foster’s Hollywood as it was the only place that appeared to still be open at midnight. It was a bit more expensive than I normally budget for an evening meal but my ‘Director’s Cut’ bacon cheese burger was a nice treat. My good pal Steven dropped me a text while [...]

Do do do, (Pablo) Zabaleta Street
Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 19 November 2009

Creativity At Its Best
Blog: Jamón, jamón: Alice's Gastronomic Adventures - 25 March 2009
This creation was called the toboggan, and Alice, Ian, Andrew and I all agreed that it provided the most complex and complimentary flavors of the tapas we had eaten at Aloña Berri.

Sliced Potato With Foie Gras
Blog: Jamón, jamón: Alice's Gastronomic Adventures - 25 March 2009
This was my first encounter with Foie Gras which is made out of the liver of a duck or a goose that has been specially fattened. I think it is typically American to imagine anything outside of hamburger or chicken meat as scary or unappetizing. Because we never see our meat except for in plastic wrap, we have a hard time when we actually encounter the real animal or are forced to imagine where our food has come from.

Stuffed Squid with a Shot of Seafood Broth
Blog: Jamón, jamón: Alice's Gastronomic Adventures - 25 March 2009
This Aloña Berri creation involves four steps: First you eat the crystallized sugar wafer riddled with holes, then you bite into the square of rice drizzled with squid ink.

The Pistachio Croqueta
Blog: Jamón, jamón: Alice's Gastronomic Adventures - 25 March 2009
My foodie weekend in San Sebastian began at Bar Garbola with this pistachio croqueta. The crunchiness on the outside contrasted with the creamy green inside and the rich pistachio pieces.
