Kitesurfing & Windsurfing
Kitesurfing & Windsurfing information
Most of the action occurs along the coast between Tarifa and Punta Paloma, 11km northwest. The best spots depend on the day's winds and tides: El Porro on Ensenada de Valdevaqueros is one of the most popular, with easy parking. Both wind- and kitesurfing are practised year-round, but the biggest season is from about April to October.
Tarifa now has around 30 kitesurf and windsurf schools, many of them with offices or shops along Calle Batalla del Salado or on Calle Mar Adriático. Others are based along the coast. Many rent and sell equipment. It's essential for kitesurfing beginners to take classes. An eight-hour beginners' course in groups of up to four, usually over two days, costs around €180 including equipment. Full equipment rental is around €80 for one day. Two-hour windsurfing classes in groups of up to four are around €55; board-and-sail rental for two/four hours is around €45/60, or €60/75 if you need a wetsuit and harness too.
