   This lovely, wide strip of fine Atlantic sand stretches about 4km along the peninsula from its beginning at the Puertas de Tierra. At weekends in summer almost the whole city seems to be out here. Bus 1 (Plaza España-Cortadura) from Plaza de España will get you there or you can walk along the promenade from Barrio Santa María.

   This compact city beach is guarded by two forts and is notable for its kitschy mock-Moorish balneario (bath house). Mimicking Ursula Andress in Dr. No, Halle Berry famously strode out of the sea in an orange bikini here in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day.
