Fusion restaurants in South Korea

  1. A

    Mad for Garlic

The bare brick walls, the wine glass and wine bottle decor and the open-plan kitchen make this a top spot for atmosphere and couples. The Italian menu doesn’t disappoint, nor does the Dracula Killer starter. Bottles of wine start from W30,000.

    Min’s Club

Old-world architecture meets new-world cuisine in this classy restaurant housed in a beautifully restored 1930s hanok that offers European-Korean meals (more European than Korean). The menu covers classics such as lobster, crab and foie gras, all of which can be matched to the bountiful cellar’s 200 wines, many of which are French.

    Gorilla in the Kitchen

Owned by Korean actor Bae Yong-jun, this smart, glass restaurant, facing the entrance to Dosan Park, focuses on health food. Chef Han has a handle on fine Euro dining, and most meals come up trumps. Rocket, grapefruit and cheese salad, squid ink, black rice – it’s all slightly adventurous, but it works. Tables by the bamboo trees are best.

    Sale e Pepe

Up on the 2nd floor, the Gaudí-style dome adds a Mediterranean feel to this Italian fusion terraced Daehangno restaurant, which serves wines and soju (a Korean liquor similar to vodka) mixed with fresh juice – kiwifruit and pineapple are popular. Every evening the mood is enhanced by live music.

  5. Noodle X

Despite the name, inventive fusion food of all kinds is served in this dimly-lit modern eatery with red and black décor and music. This is a good place to try jajangmyeon, the classic Korean noodles and black bean dish that originated in China. There's even a baked potato on the menu.

    Mama Food Market

A lengthy global menu of fresh fusion Marché-style food is served outside under a smart awning or inside in a variety of sitting areas. Every night from 20:00 to 22:30, solo singers perform on the terrace balcony.

    World Food Court

Euro-Korean fusion food is the theme here, mainly big platters of it, and the Hite draught beer corner (open from 2pm to 9.30pm) serves up beer for only W1800.
