Mindeulleyeongto
Perhaps the world’s largest café, with masses of different zones and hideaway spots, each with their own decor and furniture. Spread over five floors, the top floor is candlelit at night. A friendly dog guards the doorway and workers have their own special wave. Walt Disney would have loved it, including the name (which is something to do with dandelions). Mindeulleyeongto 2 is just down the road.

O’Sulloc (Myeong-dong)
Impeccably presented green-tea drinks and cakes are created here in this smart, green-themed teahouse. All the green tea comes from Jejudo, Korea’s southerly, semitropical island, where the best tea is reputed to grow. Green-tea ice cream and homemade green-tea chocolates are recommended, but the green-tea latte tastes like hot milk.

Verging on the funky, this laid-back café-style eatery plays good music, the bread is homemade and Jenny makes everything fresh to order, so expect to wait. Even the house wine (around ₩4000) is good. Try the mushroom sandwich and salad. Lunch sets include soup and a soft drink.

The best green tea comes from Jejudo (Jeju Island), where O’Sulloc’s tea plantation is based. This green-tea nirvana serves it up in all sorts of drinkable and edible ways. Design is their strong point – the cakes look too good to be real.
