Jeongbang Pokpo information
Lonely Planet review
Said to be the only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the sea, Jeongbang Pokpo is a 15-minute walk east of the town centre. Legend has it that around 219 BC, the falls were visited by sorcerer Xu Fu (Seo Bok in Korean); he had been sent on a mission by the Chinese emperor to find the elixir of life, believed to exist on Hallasan. An inscription on the rock near the falls (saying ‘Xu Fu passed here’) may have been carved by the man himself. You can learn more at the Seobok Exhibition Hall next to the falls, then stroll around the pretty Chinese garden.
