  3. B

    Cantina Chinatown

Buenos Aires’ little Chinatown is the barrio to be in when you feel like trading your steak knife for a pair of palitos (chopsticks). Fried-rice-and-jasmine-tea purists favor traditional, family-run diners like the cheerful Cantina Chinatown Plop down at a table by the corner window and order up tender empanadas chinas a la plancha (pot-stickers) and a deep, steaming bowl of rice noodle soup seasoned with delicious Argentina beef.

  4. C

    Restaurante Mandarim

The Mandarim has been serving quality affordable Chinese food for more than three decades, always with a low-key atmosphere and style. The per-kilo spread includes Chinese staples like egg rolls, chop suey, and sweet-and-sour pork, plus a smattering of other Asian and Brazilian items, like sushi, shrimp tempura and of course rice and beans.

  5. D

    Lai King

Located next door to the Chinese social club, this large Chinese restaurant seems more authentic than most, judging by the number of Asian patrons. So besides lo mein and wonton soup, you can enjoy mustard greens in oyster sauce or fish-stuffed tofu. But careful how you order: portions are huge.

  6. E

    Wa Lok

One of the best chifas (Chinese restaurants) in Chinatown, this longtime Cantonese spot has a 16-page menu that features dumpling, noodles, stir-fries, casseroles and a good selection of vegetarian options (try the braised tofu casserole). Portions are enormous; don’t over-order.

  8. G

    Chifa Mayflower

Celebrity chef Martin Yan, believe it or not, called this busy Chinese restaurant the best in town (check out his autographed photo by the door), and whether you agree or not, it’s definitely a great deal. Lots of veggie options.

  9. Grand Banquete Buffet

This unassuming, large Chinese restaurant in Urdesa is a good choice if you're hungry - the buffet packs a wallop. Besides a selection of seafood, it has salads and meat and veggie dishes; chicken and pork are grilled to order.

  10. H

    Petra

With a huge range of mostly Chinese food on offer, this redoubtable all-you-can-eat joint sits on the Plaza 1 de Mayo. The standard is quite a lot better than you might expect – it’s rather a bargain. Drinks not included.

    Salon Capon

Across the street from Wa Lok, somewhat smaller Salon Capon also has a lengthy Cantonese menu, good dim sum and a traditional bakery that sells scrumptious, flaky egg tarts (S1.80).

    Chifa Ah Chau

Chifa Ah Chau . This is a funky, faded but fun place with individual private curtained booths and genuine Chinese food. Portions are elephantine - order to share.

This lively, neighborhood Chinese restaurant is popular for its tasty Szechuan fare and even more so in the evening for its cheap beer.

It's just your standard chifa (Chinese restaurant), but when you have the hankering, it does the trick. Veggie options too.
