  1. Reserva da Sapiranga

    A turn-off from the road to the Castelo do Garcia d'Ávila leads down a dirt track to the Reserva da Sapiranga, where local student guides take visitors along trails skirting through 600 hectares of secondary Atlantic rain forest. Hikes range from 30 minutes to five hours, with one of the more popular hikes leading down to the Rio Pojuca (bring your swimsuit).

Two-day trips cost around US$220 per person, three days around US$330, not including park entrance fees. Tailor-made trips are available.

    Located in Palermo’s Las Cañitas area, Boulder is a small climbing gym with a tiny cave. Classes are available, along with trips to surrounding BA and even further afield, like Mendoza or Bariloche. The day rate includes shoe rental; a downstairs store sells new equipment. And the mate tea is free.
