SA Visa Extension

Should you need a short term extension of the three months' visa you get at the airport I strongly advise to apply directly at VFS Global, the compulsory gate keeper of the South African Department of Home Affairs with offices in all major cities. I do not advise to make use of the additional services of South African Migration International (SAMI) in Cape Town as they are unreliable and inefficient. Instead of facilitating my application they delayed it for seven weeks. I never got the…

Wilderness beach House in Wilderness or Wild Spirit Backpacker's Lodge in Nature's Valley? Should I stay at both? Other ideas? Looking for input from folks who have actually stayed there. Solo female traveler. Are the accommodations rough or moderately comfortable? Isolated? They both sound like a lot of fun.

Hello everybody,

I am currently in South Africa since 5 months and I am planning last road trip of 15 days with a friend before leave, in Kwazulu Natal, and Cape Town. Unfortunately, I have the impression that it is too short for what I plan to do.

Have you got advice if I am doing something not really interesting, please ?

This is our itinerary :

Day 1 : Drive, Johannesburg -> Hluhluwe-Umfolozi
2 : iSimangaliso Wetland Park
3 : Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve

My partner and another couple and I will be visiting S.A. for about three weeks, starting in mid-August. After five nights in CT, we will drive to Durban to catch a flight to Vic Falls, seven days later. We are thinking of setting off Sunday morning, stopping at Cango Caves. We prefer to avoid the terribly touristy things(which Cango may be, and we are wondering whether to simply pass thru, after a quick exploration. Our next destination would be Neue Bethesda, where we plan to stay a night…

Hi guys

We are flying out to Kenya this weekend and at the end of our trip in August will get to stay at Cape Town for around 4.5 days. If you could advise on the following queries that would be great:

  • Is it possible advise on a central / safe location to stay for day trips? Particular hotel recommendation would be even better.
  • What sightseeing could be covered comfortably in 4.5 days? We are interested in history, outdoor / hikes, drives, photography etc. etc. A friend from Cape Town…

I'm sure, somebody would have already asked about car rental in South Africa. I wanted to check are there any particular South African website through which we can do the booking as in Singapore, we dont have sites which guide us. Secondly do you recommend pick up the car from Cape Town International Airport or from downtown?
Lastly we have already got the travel insurance which covers rental vehicle excess, would we still need to buy additional insurance to cover wheels windscreen etc.

Would…

Hi
We are to visit Cape Town in August and we intend to rent a car to explore the city and nearby areas. As we would be staying in the city centre of Cape Town, wanted to check if we can do a trip by going Cape Agulhas and then heading to Cape Point and returning back via Chapmans Peak after seeing the sunset? Do it feel to tight or do you recommend to drop Cape Point?

Cheers!!

I'm from the US, will be landing in Johannesburg around 11am, then proceeding to the car rental place to pickup my rental car and then want to drive to Cradle of Humankind. After I am done there I will drive back to JNB airport, drop off the rental car and go to my hotel, which is at the airport itself.

I am a bit nervous about the whole thing due to the following:
- I have never driven on the other side of the road, do I have anything to look out for?
- Johannesburg traffic rules and rush hour…

Maybe this is old news to some of you (and I seem to have seen similar topics here before) but you should be aware that as of at least yesterday (June 20), the police at OR Tambo are stopping incoming rental/hire return cars (an d only them) and the officer(s) are telling the driver he/she ran (an apparently imaginary) stop sign. You are then offered a choice of paying a fine "downtown" or "on the spot/here" (=to the officer). As people are obviously time constrained on outgoing flights, there…

My husband and I are going to South Africa in September and have a couple of months to explore the region.

I know SA pretty well as I used to live there (many years ago) and am planning on going to Durban (my former home). a few days in Jo'burg (to visit friends and relatives), Cape Town and the Garden Route. We also want to go to a game park which doesn't cost an arm and a leg if anyone has suggestions.

What I really want to know is where else to see while we're in southern Africa. We love…
