Hi All, quick question that I hope people will be able to help me with.
We are heading to SA for a selfdrive / backpacking trip. We are arriving in Cape Town on the 9th Dec and need to be in Pilanesberg on the 25th Dec in the morning. We are planning to drive along the coast. We think we will head to Drakensberg possibly even up as far as the Golden Gate. My query is - would it be better to drive back to Durban and fly to Jo'burg and rent another car (prices are the same whether using the same…
I am travelling to South Africa over Christmas and i am looking at buying my currency. Can anyone recommend the best place to buy in the UK and if it's worth getting all cash or a travel card.
I intend getting the train from Cape Town to Simonstown and wondered if there is any way of getting back to the city via Chapmans Peak? Would taxi be the only option, and if so does anyone know what that would cost? I thought possibly to get a taxi as far as Hout Bay then a bus to the centre.
Many thanks! 1
Here I'm hoping you can help me plan my next vacations. In kind of an impulse buying, I just got really cheap tickets to Johanesburg, and some friends of mine to Maputo. So this is the deal: me and the wife arrive on JNB on nov 23th and our plane leaves from there on jan 11th. My friends arrive in Maputo in the 29th and return also on the 11th.
So far, what we're thinking about is:
- 23/nov: arrival JNB
- 24, 25: JNB
- 26: Kruger Park
- 27, 28: Kruger
- 29: leave to Maputo
- 30 meet our…
So I originally planned to stay in Cape Town for 2 weeks but now I'm thinking of heading over to the eastern cape in my second week after reading some great reviews. I really enjoy hiking and outdoor sports so I was thinking of staying in plettenberg bay, storms river and/or Mossel bay before heading back to Cape Town to fly home....
What would people recommend and any alternatives? Bearing in mind I'm a solo traveller.
Has anyone ridden the train from Cape town to Victoria falls? I have been on seat61.com. I am thinking of Next June.
I would not mind continuing on to Dar Es Salam. What were the highlight of the trip?
Any trip advice would be welcome. Were there any issues with safety?
My boyfriend and I are visiting Blyde River Canyon in December. We're coming from Kruger and staying one night in the area on the way back to Johannesburg. I would really like to do some of the canyon hiking trails but am trying to figure out if that is feasible.
My guidebook insinuates that the only way to access to hiking trails is if you stay at the Forever Blyde resort. Is this correct?
We also want to do the panorama drive of the canyon. Do you know how long this takes? Is…
I have to spend an extended weekend in Johannesburg because of a visa I must get so I'll be 5 nights.
I'm looking for somewhere safe and convenient and near supermarkets, restaurants andpublic transport, especially the Gautrain.
I do NOT drive so I must walk or take other transport and want to avoid taxis if possible.
Can anyone recommend me something, but not dorm rooms; I can pay up to 500-600 zar per night? I leave in two weeks.
I really appreciate any help.
Thanks very much,
I will be arriving at the airport at midnight...would a taxi be the only option for me to get Bayside ..? Any vans that would go there? Thanks
We need a nice place to dine on Saturday night before we fly out the following day.
We are staying in the Aviator hotel in Kempton Park and meeting my nephew so would like a place with good food and quiet ambiance so we can have some special time together.
He has a car so we can drive somewhere in the area but I have no idea what's around there and would appreciate any suggestions.
