Japanese restaurants in South Africa

  1. A

    Ben-kei

This jazzy Japanese place attracts Norwood's young trendies with its fashionable styling and authentic cooking. If you have had enough red meat, the sushi offers welcome reprieve from the braai, and it's the best in town at these prices. Try the all-you-can-eat sushi platter (R110).

  2. B

    Kyoto Sushi Garden

Beechwood furnishings and subtle lighting lend a Zen-calm air to this superior Japanese restaurant, owned by an LA expat but with a Japanese chef expert at turning out sushi and sashimi. Their prawn noodle salad is excellent as is their Asian Mary cocktail.

  3. C

    Minato

Make a booking or come early as the Japanese chef and proprietor, Muraoka-san, only serves 35 people per night and closes up when he feels like it. The sushi and authentic Japanese food far surpass those at trendier sushi joints around town. Cash only.

  4. D

    Mango Sushi

The nondescript Avonmore Centre hides a couple of recommended eateries near Joop’s Place, including the Mango Sushi.
