International restaurants in South Africa

  1. 96 Winery Road

Off Rte 44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, it’s one of the most respected restaurants in the area, known for its dry aged beef.

  2. A

    Blue Waters Café

Recommended as much for its beachfront location and place for a drink on the 2nd-floor outdoor porch as for its large and varied menu – although, perhaps because of the breadth of choices on offer, the food doesn’t rise above the ordinary.

  3. B

    French Connection

No-nonsense bistro-style food using only fresh ingredients is dished up at this deservedly popular place.

  4. C

    Café Havana

About as Cuban as Mossel Bay can get, this restaurant and cocktail bar has a great vibe. The stews and steaks are a nice antidote to all the seafood in town – though of course there’s plenty of that as well.

  5. D

    Pavilion

In a 19th-century bathing pavilion modelled on the one in Brighton, this is a fine choice for a beachside meal. The menu offers just about everything.

  6. E

    34 South

With outdoor tables overlooking the water, lavish salads, deli produce and seafood pâtés, this is a great place for lunch. The wine selection is one of the best in town.

  7. F

    Restaurant 141

Formerly the Circle, this is Greenside’s answer to fine dining, with discreet service and delicious, beautiful and small portions of food. The five-course tasting menu is well worth a try. The atmosphere can be a bit staid though.

    Mano's

A simple menu including Greek salad, fillet steak, egg and chips, and chicken schnitzel might not set your mouth drooling, but the crowds that regularly dine here would beg to differ, proving you don't need to be fancy to be successful.
