Lonely Planet review
Founded by Rhodes and his diamond cronies as a private club in 1881, and rebuilt following a fire in 1896, the reputedly haunted hotel entertained colonial Kimberley’s elite. Renovated 10 years ago, the national monument exudes history and class in rooms such as the library, billiards room and bar. The 21 bedrooms are period elegant, and offer the chance to pad in the slipper-steps of luminaries from Rhodes onwards.
