Lonely Planet review
Location isn’t everything – but it’s just one of the distinguishing features of this delightful backpackers. Terrific views abound: take an alfresco bath in the cliff-side tub or climb to the top of the 15m platform that’s perched in the forest among parrots, monkeys and baboons. Or simply gaze out of your room window; interiors are painted with fantastical designs featuring nubile fairies. Horse riding (1½-hour trails R175) and a guided 16km mountain biking trip (R250) taking in eight waterfalls are offered. The Wizard’s Sleeve Inn , which doubles as reception, is the spot to down a few beers in the evenings, order a made-to-order pizza or sandwich and trade travel tales around a log fire. Regular shuttles to East London (R125) and Chintsa (R150) are available, with reservations.
Our independent authors have visited Away with the Fairies and selected this as one of our recommended hostels in Hogsback.
