Johannesburg Shopping

  1. Eastgate Mall

    This place boasts of being Africa's largest mall and is home to some 250 shops covering all a happy shopper could want. Amongst the standard mall fodder are some useful stores for travellers such as photography labs and camping goods outlets. It's about halfway between the airport and the city centre.

  2. Oriental Plaza

    A short walk from Newtown, you'll find Oriental Plaza. This is our favourite mall in the city. It's unmissable for a look at the real Jo'burg in all its diversity, and the surrounding area of Fordsburg is historically and culturally fascinating. The centre itself is the place to come for cheap shoes, by-the-metre haberdashery and fresh samosas.

  3. Sandton City

    South Africa's biggest mall protrudes from the Sandton horizon. It has a three-tiered tower housing 290 stores. South African designers such as Jenni Button and Hilton Weiner appear alongside the usual array of international labels. While it is potentially an expensive shopping experience, it is nevertheless an enjoyable and convenient one.
