A fabulous fiesta of potters from all over town and beyond
jinjinjewellery recommends this,
Huge meeting of the ceramic clan with vast variety of wares, from the blushingly awful to items of heartbreaking beauty of museum quality. A tremendously fun excursion for the whole family under the trees in the lovely Rondebosch Park. Cognoscenti, including all the gallery owners, get there early. Incredible buys on seconds. Functional and art items. Great for gifts. You will never be tempted to buy cheap, mass produced china again. Your food never tasted as good as it does out of a work of art.

great food amazing variety of potters east to west down sout
johnbauer recommends this,
it is the biggest gathering of potters in africa, they travel considerable distances, most potters are from the western cape but some from the eastern cape and Harry comes all the way from malawi bringing african tribal sculptures. there is a strong Hamada and Bernard Leach influence the classic anglo oriental school. the cape potters are very well known for making hand made tiles and their glazing skills are exceptional, Ngola brings passport masks he comes from Angola but trained in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cape porcelain is highly collecable as there are few potters who fire to a high enough temperature. there has been a flourish of art pottery in the last decade. This industry has become vibrant and exciting since the lifting of sanctions post 1995 and the american chain Anthropoligie and the Conran shop are just 2 of the big names of taste who enable potters to work small but dream big.
