Surfing activities in South Africa

    Gary’s Surf School

If genial surfing coach Gary Kleynhans can’t get you to stand on a board within a day, you don’t pay for the two-hour lesson (R500). His shop, the focus of Muizenberg’s surf scene, hires out boards and wetsuits for R100 each per day. It also runs sandboarding trips to the dunes at Kommetjie (R300).

    Roxy Surf Club

Roxy Towill began Cape Town’s only women-only surf club in 2003 to encourage more girls to get into this male-dominated sport. If you join the club, it’s R350 per month for four lessons of 1½ hours each. A private lesson including board is R250.
