Hi, my girlfriend and I will go to South Africa next week, travel by rental car from Johannesburg to KwaZulu Natal and then south.
My question: How important would you consider booking sleeping options ahead in October?
I prefer to book ahead only a few days to allow flexibility. However I heard places fill up quickly this time of year already.
Any advice? Thank you.
I have a short probably 5 night/ 6 day trip (maybe one night/day less depending on a flight) to Marrakech coming up in mid-October and was trying to narrow down an itinerary. When I mention Morocco, most people ask me if I am going to the Sahara, but looking into things, Atlas activities such as Toubkel or the Cascades d'Ouzoud look amazing.
With such a short timeline, I am assuming I can only choose either doing the desert or some Atlas day trips along with spending some time in the city. I'd…
on my short trip from Durban to Capetown I'd like to stop for 2 days in one of those two places at the Wild Coast but I'm having difficulties in deciding which one. At first I thought I'd stop in Coffee Bay but now I read that its sort of scruffy and I thought Chintsa could be a good alternative.
I just want to relax after hiking in the Drakensberg, go for a swim (it that possible in either of those places??) and do a few short hikes.
Would be great if you could give me your opinion…
OK we've finally finished editing the documentary about our overland expedition along Angola's River Kwanza in June / July 2016. Total journey was 1300km, with 984km of kayaking. Film is 50 minutes long and can be watched here:

Enjoy! Happy to answer any questions about the journey on this…
I am in The Gambia just now, and for the next few months. When I finish here, I am debating whether to drive back up the west coast to Europe, or to continue south, along the coast, eventually to South Africa. I would like to follow the Atlantic coast as much as possible.
I wonder whether anyone has advice or opinions as to this route. A friend of mine who has worked in Nigeria for a few years tells me that the current situation is not good there, and to drive through wouldn't be a great…
I am planning a 6 day trip to Zanzibar at the end of January 2016. Is that enough time to see some local culture?
Swimming and the beach will definitely be in my plans. What fruits are available then?
I am a huge foodie. What should I try?
Does anyone have any recommendations for mid-price hotel for a solo traveler?
I have a possibly weird question that puzzles me. This is a serious question and not meant to be confrontational.
I have noticed that on this forum there are a lot of threads about "climbing Mount Kenya". Only they aren't about climbing, Mt Kenya, they are about trekking to Lenana Point.
I am just curious why people who are trekking Lenana Point are claiming that they are climbing Mount Kenya. They aren't even remotely the same thing. It is akin to claiming that trekking to Everest Base…
I need your help!!. From the 2nd November till the 24th I will be travelling to Mozambique by myself. I've already bought the plane ticket: Barcelona-Maputo-Barcelona and my plan is from Maputo fly to Pemba and then going down through the Indian coast taking local transport. Places to visit? Quirimbas, island of Mozambique, Nampula to Cuamba by train, Bazaruto archipelago & Inhambane.
However there is a problem which I haven't thought at all: it's the security. I've read online…
