Lonely Planet review for Sokol
In this old vaulted house near the Central Market, traditional Slovenian food is served on heavy tables by costumed waiters. Pizza is available if traditional dishes like obara (veal stew around €6) and Krvavica sausage with cabbage don't appeal.

Gostilna Sokol - "Restaurant Hawk"
beardedtraveller1983 recommends this,
Essential dining for almost everybody passing through as well as living in the city, Sokol is arguably the most famous of all the traditional Slovenian restaurants in Ljubljana, if not all Slovenia. Several different rooms, all decorated in a traditional, rustic manner provide the ultimate fatty meat blow-out such as venison plate, game goulash or veal stew as well as a few safer dishes including karst ham with olive, Ljubljana steak plus limited fish and vegetarian options. The desserts are equally punishing on the waistline, but well worth trying if you can still fit one in after your main course. Look for the cheeky red chef by the entrance or listen for the chain-smoking Americans swapping business stories on the front steps.

The best place to have a taste of real local cuisine!
ncollovati recommends this,
There are no words to describe the domaca Gobova Juha (homemade mushroom cream) or the Ljubljanski Zrezek (a sort of cordon bleu...huge!)! The nice atmosphere makes you feel like at home, even if the place might seem a bit dark and tiny, staff is extreamly friendly and the prices are incredibly low for the size of the portions and the quality of the food you get! They even produce their own beer...so, if you end up in Ljubljana, you should definetly try it (at any time of the day)! By the way...Sokol means Eagle. Dober tek!
