There are ATMs at every turn, including in the train and bus stations, where you’ll also find a bureaux de change, open 6am to 10pmThey charge no commission but change cash only.
Some of the best exchange rates in Ljubljana are available at Nova Ljubljanska Banka (Trg Republike 2; 8am-6pm Mon-Fri),Ljubljana City Savings Bank Building Center (Mestna Hranilnica Ljubljanska; Čopova ulica 3; 9am-1pm & 3-5pm Mon-Fri) and the Old Town (Mestni trg 16; 8am-noon & 2.30-4.30pm Mon-Fri).
Ljubljana still has a few menjalnice (private exchange bureaus) taking no commission and offering good rates, including one in the Central Market called Hida (Pogačarjev trg 1; 7am-7pm Mon-Fri, 7am-2pm Sat).
Credit cards
Atlas Express (430 77 20; Kolodvorska ulica 16; 8am-5pm Mon-Fri) This is the Slovenian representative for foreign American Express card-holders. It can make advances partly in cash and partly in travellers cheques; limits depend on the card you are carrying.
Abanka (471 81 00; Slovenska cesta 50; 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, 9am-noon Sat) A local rep for Visa, Abanka can issue a euro cash advance on your card. If you have problems with your Visa card when Abanka is closed, call the Visa Centre (471 81 00; 24hr)
Diners Club (589 61 11; Dunajska cesta 129) Headquarters is in Bežigrad.
Nova Ljubljanska Banka (477 20 00; 24hr) For Eurocard and MasterCard holders.
