Hi. I am currently in Novi Sad, Serbia, and thinking of possibly traveling to Stary Smokovec in the High Tatras for hiking. The original plan for my trip had been to do a loop around the Balkans from Albania to Bosnia to Serbia to Romania to Bulgaria. I am an avid hiker and trying to figure out whether the detour to Stary Smokovec would be worthwhile. I have heard that the hiking in this area is wonderful and that Stary Smokovec is the best place in which to base oneself. I would go to Budapest…
since the thorn tree community was always so nice and helpful I would like to ask you this time for your advice on Slovakia.
We will be going to Slovakia for 8 full days and want to stay in Bratislava the first day, stay in Slovensk raj for some hiking 2 days and spend 3 days in the High Tatras
I am just wondering what to do in the 'inbetweens'. Could you recommend some nice places to visit on the way from Bratislava to Levoca (our base for slovensky raj and already booked)? We…
Thinking of visiting Slovakia late June this year and mostly had in mind some time in Bratislava and then go hiking in the High Tatras.
The thing is I travel alone. In city time its no brainer and I can do it just fine. When I hike though, I'm more into hiking with someone else (or even a group).
I saw that Zdiar has a hostel - so my question is for those of you whove been there - do you know if it's a place where I can meet other solo travelers and join together for hikes? Or is it more of…
So myself and a couple friends decided to go on an adventure, we've booked flights and tickets for Pohoda music festival in early july, at Trencin airport, and allowed ourselves 7 days to walk there from Bratislava.
We want to follow the The Slovak National Uprising Heroes Trail (Cesta hrdinov SNP) but there is very little information (let alone in English!). Does anyone know where we can get to the trail once we arrive in the capital?
We also need to know if wild camping is fine in Slovakia, if…
Myself and my partner are spending three nights in Bratislava and we are thinking about taking the train to Piestany to spend a few hours at the thermal baths in the Thermia Palace Hotel. We have been to thermal bath complexes in many countries, including those in Baden Baden in Germany and were wondering whether the Hotel had a good range of facilities on offer such as hammams, saunas, relaxation rooms, jacuzzis etc. Also is it worth the two hours travelling there and back?
I plan on visiting Bratislava in June on my route cycling from Greece to England. Does anyone know of a hotel which might have bicycle storage? The reason I ask, is I probably would stay in the hotel for a couple of nights, then leave the bike there whilst I got a train to Budapest with a non-cycling friend, and return for the bike 2 or 3 days later. Any help much appreciated!!
We are taking a day trip from Vienna to Bratislava . I am confused about train tickets. I have
seen a train ticket - one way- for about 14.00. Does that cover travel on our return? I know some trains offer all day travel to a location near a city. Also, if the ticket doesn't say sparsciene, does that mean I am not locked into a definite time for our return ticket?
Thank you for any help!!
I'm travelling with my other half to Bratislava in February and I am looking for suggestions on where to go besides the tourist attractions. Something off the beaten track.... To eat, drink or listen to live music.
I'm also wondering about prices. How expensive is it there?
Any suggestions on prices, places to visit, transport, people, would be highly appreciated.
We will be trying to cross the ukraine boarder to ujghorod on 29th december can you tell us best way to do this by public transport. We know there is a bus to the boarder but it looks like its a boarder where only vehicles can cross.
