MY boyfriend and I are renting a car and will be driving from Budapest to Krakow. We will be leaving Budapest the morning of Sept 3. On the way to Krakow, we wanted to stop in the Tatras and climb Mt Rysy. Since that hike is a full day we thought we would stay for 2 nights at the PTTK chalet at Moreskie Oko but when I called they had no beds for the 2 nights. Are there other options on the Slovakian side? And what is the difference in climbing Mt Rysy from the Poland or the Slovakian side…
I am planning on visiting Slovakia in the first week of September, and I would love to know what all should be on my to do list. Number of days are not a problem - I can spare anything between 5-8 days.
My prime motive is to photograph the beautiful landscapes of Slovakia, understand the culture, meet the people and create some lovely memories of Slovakia. I love hiking, cycling and backpacking. I would rather spend the majority of days in offbeat places than the usual touristy ones.
We (family with 3 kids 18,14,13) are planning a roadtrip from 21 to 31 August from Budapest to Prague Vienna and back to Budapest by car.
We are starting to have serious doupts about having time to visit Prague, since we would rather like to drive through scenic routes and have one ore two half day hikes/trekks.
The main idea is city strolling + not touristy natural or heritage hidden gems+scenical driving.
We would very much welcome any insider suggestions of possible driving…
I'm going on a road trip with my boyfriend and dog next month and we're going to the High Tatras as well. I just read you can get some great discounts with the 'Tatry Card'. On the website of the region I found this info:
'Buy your personal regional card at your accommodation provider. It costs 3 € in facilities located in the Region of the High Tatras (town of Vysoké Tatry, town of Poprad and settlement of Štrba) and 4 € in the foothills.'
There is a list with hotels and other…
I am planning to drive Sturovo --> Bratislava --> Brno.
Is it possible at all to avoid the motorway and hence avoid buying the vignette? Any route to recommend?
Two friends and I will be traveling from Krakow to Zilina by train at the beginning of July. We have about 3/4 days to spend before heading to Budapest. We would like to do some hiking in the mountains. We will be relying on public transport and staying in hostels/hotels.
Can someone suggest any itineraries or any place we should try and visit?
We are driving from Krakow to Vienna. We would like to spend 2 days somewhere in the mountains before we go to vienna. It could be between krakow and vienna , maybe in western Slovakia, or up to 1.5 hours from vienna. We wanted to go to hallstatt, but coming from Krakow, it requires us to go way past vienna, and then back to vienna (we fly out of vienna so we have to end there). Looking for some mountains, hiking, lakes, etc. Any advice would be appreciated!
Hello folks, an opportunity has just presented itself for me to visit some friends who live in Banska Bystrica. The flight, from Doha arrives in Vienna. I think I will stay there for one night. Here's a couple of questions:
Can I get to Banska Bystrica by train, preferably without changing?
From what little information I have been able to quickly glean, this looks impossible, I think that I have to change at least once, in Bratislava, but no big deal. That being the case, can one of…
