Zeelandia

Zeelandia information

Lonely Planet review

Zeelandia, about 3.2km northeast of Oranjestad, takes its name from Statia’s first Dutch settlers, who were from Zeeland province in the Netherlands.

The dark-sand beach at Zeelandia Bay collects its fair share of flotsam and is not ideal for swimming; the Atlantic side of the island is turbulent and there are dangerous currents and undertows. It is a reasonable strolling beach, however, and you can find private niches by walking south toward the cliffs.
