While Singapore’s not the shopping haven it once was – Hong Kong and Bangkok have stolen its thunder – there are clusters of cool local fashion designers and enough international brands to sate the shopping needs of most visitors. IT nerds can also rejoice at the low(ish) prices and wide range of cameras and gear. Of course, everybody’s heard of Orchard Rd, Singapore’s shopping mecca. Once lined with plantations of the natural kind, it now seems to grow new malls every few years. You’ll find most of what you want here; in particular, fashion labels ranging from the high-street variety (Zara, Top Shop, Uniqlo) to the high-end (Hermès, Gucci, Louis Vuitton). Elsewhere, there’s everything in-between: Qing-dynasty antiques, Warhol originals, fabrics and spices. The only limiting factors are your luggage restrictions and credit-card limits.
