Visitors looking for a tattoo shop with a definite pedigree should know about Exotic Tattoo, for it’s here that you’ll be able to get exquisite work from Sumithra Debi. One of the few female tattoo artists in Singapore, Sumithra is also the granddaughter of Johnny Two-Thumbs, probably Singapore’s most legendary tattoo artist. Though there’s another shop in the plaza bearing the Two-Thumbs name, Exotic Tattoo is the actual heir to the Two-Thumbs lineage. In addition to ink work, the shop also does piercing.

Fantastic artwork with good speed and excellent finishing

I was introduced to the artist by my colleague to get a a piece done on my right bicep in 2007. Since, I have 08 in total done by Sumithra Debi. All of them are of fantastic artwork, definitions and finishing touches. I am very grateful to her to make my skin a beautiful canvas with good and meaningful art. She takes the effort to discuss about all the designs prior to commencing. She has provided some valuable advise which made me change my mind about some designs. Overall, Sumithra and her staff are very friendly and jovial. Everytime I walk in, I'm greeted with warm handshakes and friendly conversations. I have introduced numerous friends, cousins and even my wife to Exotic. They are very satisfied by the artwork and the service rendered. Well Exotic Tattoos!

I have been getting my tattoos from Su at Exotic Tattoo for a decade and have never been disappointed. My tattoos were always executed with the utmost care and precision down to every minute detail. From conceptualization to finished artwork on my skin has been a pleasant and exhilarating experience every single time with Su. During my years of getting inked by Su, I have learned that not only is she well equiped with the skill and knowledge of her trade, she is also a good collaborator. For a successful tattoo to become a visually stunning piece of art, it requires the creative input from both the customer and the tattoo artist, and Su definitely fits the bill.

Rude tattoo artist, regret getting my first tattoo there

Perhaps it was because I was a student, but Sumithra Debi was impatient, rude and did not make me feel comfortable at all about getting my first tattoo. She chastised me (told me to go home and think about the design properly then come back as it wasn't her job to walk me through picking the font, in a rude manner) when i took a long time to choose a font for my tattoo, did not walk me through the process at all and did not smile once. As it was my first time, i thought this was normal but later found out from my friend that her tattoo artist walked her through the process and even sketched out her ideas. I thought, rudeness aside, maybe she'd live up to her name and give me a good tattoo. But when the tattoo healed, i realised the placing and the style of some of the alphabets were off. It wasn't a significant flaw, but it wasn't the perfect first tattoo i had in mind. Overall, i wish i had gotten my first tattoo somewhere else with a more patient and polite tattoo artist that actually had their customers' best interests at heart.
